A report has come in from Colin Speedie who works on basking shark research on the west coast of Scotland.

14/7/09 c.1600 BST 1 x 3-3.5m basking shark in approx pos'n 56 50.455N 06 12.692W (off Port Mor, Isle of Muck, Sea of the Hebrides). Red tag just abaft first dorsal fin. Many larger sharks in the area over last few days (c. 40 y'day), this one swam very close to the boat allowing definite ID of the tag colour, but sea conditions didn't allow ID of the number.

The report came from Ronnie Dyer, skipper of the M/V Shearwater, who runs wildlife cruises and is also the ferry to the Small Isles

further details on www.baskingshark.ie

Many thanks to Colin and Ronnie.
